My Evolving Policy on that one Emerging Technology

1. Do not use AI to perform plagiarism.

AI is trained on stolen work, which it uses to plagarize people's work. The "best" AI work always has a superior human-made counterpart which it takes from. It's better to copy something straight from the source than to replicate something and call it your own.

2. Do not not use AI-Generated Imagery or Media

AI images are shit.

3. Do not compromise on your learning for "efficiency".

My learning comes first above efficiency. AI prioritizes speed without leaving room for critical moments of reflection. If I recognize that AI is slowing down my learning, I will reevaluate how I am using it.

4. Do not anthropormorphize AI.

Ai is not human. Anthropomorphizing AI does not help us understand it. AI is not your "thinking partner". It should be used purely as a tool, it is useful for carrying out repetitive operations but cannot think critically on its own. Believing it can do so will lead to AI halucinations being embedded into your work and thinking process.

5. Use the most ethical LLM available.

Currently using Claude, but I plan to switch to a locally-hosted LLM for privacy concerns and to reduce enviromental impact.

6. Only use AI when its boring.

Imagine if you are an architect and you have just finished designing the building. Now imagine when someone asks you, "Hey, what was the most interesting part of your work?", and you respond with, "Oh yeah, the most interesting part of my WHOLE process was when I used a fucking calculator to make some measurements". What the fuck? Why are we celebrating a tool over real human accomplishments? Are we this fucking boring? AI should always be used in the LEAST interesting ways possible, make it do our homework, make it do our taxes, but do NOT let it ever do anything with any significant importance to your life.

You are better than that.
